2009 Skylark Car Show a Huge Success

The Skylark sponsored 2009 MDA "Road to the Cure' Car Show was a huge success and raised nearly $8,000 for Jerry's Kids. The turnout was fantastic. About 80 cars (antiques to dragsters) filled the Ashley Furniture parking lot. It was a blast....... Next year will be even bigger.......... but first a little rest.

Skylark to Launch Jolly Jitney

Skylark, in a joint venture with inTrans, will launch a jitney (shuttle) service between Wichita Falls, Texas and Jolly, Texas on August 25, 2009. The service is in response to Greyhound’s planned terminal move. Grehound has previously announced that, on August 25, it will move its Wichita Falls terminal to a truck stop 12 miles south of the city. In addition to the jitney service, Skylark will also service the new terminal in Jolly with its fleet of taxicabs. People needing a ride to or from the Greyhound/Jefferson terminal in Jolly may book online through http://www.goskylark.com/ or by calling the Skylark dispatch center at 1-800-The-Ride.

The 2009 Ranch Roundup will be held August 14 & 15 at the Kay Yeager Coliseum in downtown Wichita Falls. During both days, a Bit, Spur & Western Collectibles Trade Show with over 200 booths will be held in the MPEC Exhibit Hall from 9am-7:30pm. The Ranch Cutting Horse Competition will be held at the J.S. Bridwell Arena Friday morning at 7:30 and a Ranch Horse Competition will take place Saturday morning at the K.Y.C. at 7:30.

Skylark Establishes New Scholarship

The Martin Luther King Center scholarships are awarded annually to graduating high school students in North Texas. The "Skylark" scholarship was established with the assistance of Dorothy Roberts-Burns, Wichita Falls City Councilor for District 2. The recepient will be selected by committee each spring.

Skylark, the premier passenger transportation company in North Texas, announced today that it will co-sponsor an ASA “Thunder Stock” Race Car during the 2009 Season. The Number 14 car will be campaigned by Bobby Todd and Todd’s Racing in Wichita Falls, Texas. Veteran driver, Ray Stephens, will be at the controls throughout the racing season.

“We hope that our involvement with this car will showcase real grass roots racing,” states Skylark Vice President Candice Darnell. "A sponsorship in local and regional racing offers broad-based appeal to a wide consumer audience allowing us to gain visibility, brand exposure and product awareness among our target audiences," added Skylark President Kevin Callahan.

Text Message Hoax

A text message hoax is making the rounds throughout Wichita Falls. The phony message, sent primarily to cell phones, has even come across our own message system as well as the cell phones of some of our drivers and dispatchers. The Wichita Falls Police Department had this to say about the hoax:

A text message you may have received about a gang initiation is believed to be a hoax. The Wichita Falls Police Department and local media outlets have been inundated with inquiries about the bogus text message. In the text, the sender claims persons will be shot outside a local retailer as part of a gang initiation.
The Department’s Public Information Office has learned the message has actually been around since 2005 when internet e-mails began to circulate about the event. However, over the last two days the cell phone message has circulated in about a dozen states including Texas, California, Florida and Delaware. Locally, the message says the information was somehow “confirmed” by local authorities. That statement is absolutely false.
Technology such as e-mails and text messages are difficult to trace. However, messages about future acts of violence could lead to criminal charges if the sender knew the message to be a hoax.

Skylark To Expand Capacity as Airlines Shrink.

Skylark Airport Express and its subsidiary DFW Airport Express have expanded capacity on the regularly scheduled Wichita Falls, Texas to DFW Airport shuttles. Our local airport has had the number of flights to and from DFW Airport reduced to 3 per day. This is causing a problem for customers who have to make connections at DFW Airport. Skylark will double capacity on all of its early morning runs beginning in October 2008. Skylark Taxi held our first birthday celebration with an open house on Sunday June 8, 2008. We were thrilled with the turn out as more than 150 people stopped by to wish us a Happy Birthday. Each guest received a bottle of Texas Blush produced by the Wichita Falls Vineyards and Winery, www.wichitafallsvineyardsandwinery.com. The brisket and fixins prepared by our very own Mr. Richard Frye was a huge hit with all of our guests as were the two beautiful handcrafted birthday cakes created by Benny Daniel of Masterpiece Cakes. Skylark brand founder Lera Dwyer and her husband were on hand and brought pictures showing the construction of the depot that Skylark now occupies. A great time was had by all and Skylark Taxi is looking forward to a great 2nd year. Skylark Van Service, our DFW Airport Express Shuttle Division, has been in continuous service for 26 years.

Skylark Taxi turned one year old on June 4, 2008. WOW, What a year it has been. On June 4, 2007 there were three cab companies serving Wichita Falls and Sheppard Air Force Base.... now there are two. We ran 4 calls on our first day of operations.... now we run more than 10,000 per month. On our first day, 7 people rode in our cabs, since then more than 180,000 people have been a passenger in one of Skylark's taxicabs..... and we are still growing. A big "THANK YOU" goes out to all of our loyal customers, our drivers, our mechanics, our office staff and our dispatchers, without you we would never have made it this far. Taxicabs to Forego Rate Increase

The City of Wichita Falls has authorized local taxicab companies to raise their rates by ten cents per mile during the second quarter of 2008. The rate increase is tied to the increasing costs of gasoline. However, Skylark Taxi, operator of Wichita Falls' largest fleet of taxicabs, says that it will not raise its prices and will continue to provide service at the previous rate. Skylark Vice President Candice Darnell stated, "Fuel is not the only commodity that is experiencing price increases. Our customers are facing rising costs across the board and we simply are not yet prepared to burden our customers with another increase. Many of our customers depend on us for all of their transportation needs and ten cents per mile can have a real impact on their budget."

Skylark Expands Again.

Skylark received permission from the Wichita Falls City Council to increase its fleet by another ten taxicabs. Candice Darnell, Skylark's Senior Vice President stated "We should have the additional cars on the streets within 60 days." Skylark now operates the largest taxicab operation in North Texas. The company is transporting approximately 4,000 people per week in the Wichita Falls area. Customer service remains the company's primary focus. The company plans to launch its own marketing division in April 2008 and will offer advertisers some excellent opportunities to reach their target audience.

Skylark Inks Deal with Presidential Ending Competition

In a definitive agreement reached between Presidential Transportation and Skylark’s parent, Texhoma Transportation Inc., Skylark will be acquiring substantially all of the assets of Presidential Taxi and DFW Airport Express. Prezo Incorporated’s existing taxicab franchise granted by the City of Wichita Falls as well as its vehicle permits will be returned to the Wichita Falls City Council in the near future. Presidential Taxi and DFW Airport Express will both cease operations on Thursday January 24, 2008.

Both Skylark and Presidential have taken the necessary steps to insure that all Presidential Taxi and DFW Airport Express customers will be well cared for. “The two companies are working closely together in order to make a smooth transition and a seamless experience for our customers,” stated Mr. Wade, President of Presidential. Customers calling Presidential Taxi for a ride will find Skylark Taxi answering the phone and Skylark taxicabs ready to provide service. “We have a system set up that we hope will avoid confusion,” added Candice Darnell of Skylark Taxi. Mrs. Darnell went on to say that “Handicap Express and Medical Transport customers that reach Skylark by accident will be automatically referred to Handicap Express by Skylark’s staff.”

Dinner Impossible?

Wednesday, January 23rd at 9:00 PM CST the Food Network will air the "Dinner Impossible" episode filmed here at Sheppard AFB on September 22nd 2007 at Sheppard's Celebration of the Air Force's 60th Anniversary. This will be the first airing of the event. Re-airings will occur on the Food Network on Jan 24th at midnight CST and Feb 2nd at 2PM CST.
For those who may not have attended the event, Chef Robert Irvine and his crew were given 10 hours to feed 1,000 members of Sheppard Air Force Base and surrounding community members. This episode will provide an opportunity for the nation to see the world-class training operation that is Sheppard AFB and the support given Sheppard/Air Force by the area communities.

Skylark staff members attended the Wichita Falls annual Dr. Martin Luther King Prayer and Scholarship Breakfast on Saturday January 19, 2008. This year's theme was "Keep the Goal in View." With more than 800 people in attendance, the event was a huge success. The tireless efforts of Wichita Falls City Council Member Dorothy Roberts-Burns were clearly in evidence. Councilor Burns brought together a diverse group of Wichitans and raised substantial funds for future scholarships. Key note speaker, U.S. District Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange, read a personal letter to Dr. King filled with the memories of the past, the realities of the present and the hopes of the future. Skylark was proud to play a small role in this important event.

A WILD December

December has arrived with a roar at Skylark. Last weekend was our busiest weekend ever. We ran more than 1000 calls over a three day period and really put our drivers to the test. Our growth continues thanks to our loyal customers and the great men and women at Sheppard Air Force Base. We also participated in the City of Wichita Falls' annual taxicab inspections this week. We are pleased to announce that our entire fleet sailed through the inspection process without a hitch. Tuesday was also a mile stone for Skylark. The taxicab division turned 6 months old and became the largest taxicab company in the Texoma area at the same time. Weird Weekend

Well it was a weird weekend for us at Skylark. Despite Friday being slower than expected, Saturday came through and was a lot busier than expected. We still ran more than 700 taxi calls over this weekend alone and have pretty much cemented our position as the number one cab company in the Falls.
